Google Maps Renames Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' Amid Trump's Executive Order
Google Maps has made a change to its mapping of Lake Ontario in response to an executive order signed by Donald Trump. In August, Trump announced that he would be renaming Lake Ontario to 'Lake America,' and Google Maps has followed suit by updating its maps to reflect this name change.
The decision has sparked widespread criticism on social media, with many users expressing their disapproval of the move. Clio Music executive director Michael Kauffman was among those who spoke out against the change, calling it an 'embarrassing and awful decision' made by the Google Maps team.
Others have also weighed in on the issue, with some suggesting that Google should not be bowing to Trump's demands. MapQuest, a competitor of Google Maps, has refused to make the name change, instead offering users the option to rename the lake themselves through its 'Rename Lake Ontario' campaign.
