Google Maps has made changes to reflect President Donald Trump's executive order renaming 'Lake Ontario' to 'Lake America'. The change affects only U.S. users, with those in Canada and elsewhere still seeing the original name.

The decision comes as part of an escalating trade feud between the U.S. and Canada, with both countries imposing reciprocal tariffs on billions of dollars in goods.

Trump's order affects the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), which sets standards for official U.S. maps. Google Maps updates its information based on these sources, so 'Lake America' will appear for U.S. users, while those in Canada and elsewhere will continue to see 'Lake Ontario'.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney rejected the name change, with New York Governor Kathy Hochul also expressing opposition.
