Google Maps Speedometer Feature Rolls Out, Then Disappears Again on Android Auto

Google Maps has been rolling out its long-awaited speedometer feature on Android Auto, but users are experiencing inconsistent results.

The feature, which displays a speedometer during navigation, was first spotted in July as part of a beta release. However, it appears to have vanished again for some users, with others still seeing the speedo and speed limits.

One user who tested Google Maps on Android Auto in the UK reported having access to the feature despite not being on the beta release. They noted that the speedometer shows real-time speed, but may lag behind the car's own speedometer, which is calculated from wheel speed.

The inclusion of speed limits is seen as a more useful feature, especially for users with older cars or those without built-in speed limit displays. Google Maps' speed limits are based on satellite data and can reflect recent changes to speed restrictions.
