Google Maps Speedometer Returns, But Not Yet for Everyone
Google Maps' speedometer feature was a highly anticipated addition to Android Auto this year. However, it mysteriously disappeared from users' devices in late October.
The disappearance caused frustration among users who had grown accustomed to having the feature available at all times. Fortunately, Google has provided an explanation for the sudden absence of the speedometer.
According to Mishaal Rahman, the issue was not a bug but rather a miscommunication regarding how the feature works. The speedometer is intended to be displayed only when navigation is enabled, and its absence in other situations was simply a matter of the rollout process.
Rahman spoke with an Android Auto product team member, who confirmed that the ability to display the speedometer without a destination set is still rolling out. This means that not all users have access to this feature yet, which may contribute to the confusion surrounding its disappearance.
