Google Maps Tracks Business Busyness with Anonymized User Data
Google Maps uses aggregated and anonymized data from users who have opted in to Google Location History to determine popular times, wait times, and visit duration for businesses.
This information is recorded and tracked over time to build an appropriate profile for each business. To see this feature, simply tap or open the Google page for any location and reference the 'Popular Times' section.
Google uses differential privacy to ensure that busyness data can't be used to identify individual users, but it will still collect a lot of personal details beyond just location data, including payment information, purchases, search history, browsing history, and more.
