Google Meet Hardware Ditches ChromeOS for Android

Google has announced that it will transition its Google Meet hardware portfolio from ChromeOS to Android. This move is part of a larger shift towards Android, which includes the upcoming release of Googlebook computers that run on a merged platform combining ChromeOS and Android.

The existing Google Meet hardware devices, built by partners like Logitech and ASUS, will continue to work as usual, but users should note that future support may be limited. According to Google, these devices will still receive updates, security patches, and support until 2027 or as late as September 2030 for some devices.

The advantages of switching to Android include supporting a wider range of form factors, better enterprise stability, hardware flexibility, and longer lifecycles, according to Google. However, for users who are planning on purchasing new hardware, it is recommended to wait until 2027 to see what new Android-based Google Meet devices will be available.
