Google Messages Bug Sends Old Texts to Random People Alongside New Messages
A bug in Google Messages has been causing users' phones to send old texts to random people alongside new messages. This has been reported by several users over the past few weeks, with some even sharing examples of how their phone sent a vulgar message they had sent to their wife along with a message to an asphalt company.
The issue seems to be happening when users are setting up a new phone, and it's affecting both RCS and SMS users. Google has confirmed that they're aware of the bug and have a fix on the way, but there's no estimate yet for when it will roll out.
In the meantime, users can check for updates on the Google Play beta channel, where the latest builds (September 3 and September 4) are available. Those in the beta program may get the fix sooner than others, but it's unclear how long it will take to reach all users.
