Google Messages Chat Themes: Half of Readers Unfazed

Google Messages has rolled out a new feature called chat themes, allowing users to customize individual conversations. The feature lets you change conversation colors, use preset wallpapers, or choose an image of your own. Android Authority ran a poll to see how readers would react to the feature and found that over 2,500 people voted.

The results were mixed, with 36% saying they'd been waiting a long time for chat themes, while 33% were unsure but planned to try them out. Just over 31% said they'd never use the feature. Some readers shared their thoughts in the comments section, with some welcoming the option and others dismissing it as 'meaningless window dressing.'

Android Authority reported that Google told them that availability may fluctuate as they optimize the rollout and are looking into reports of latency and freezing. This suggests that while chat themes have potential, there's still work to be done.
