Google Messages Fails to Win Over Samsung Users

Samsung has officially discontinued its text messaging app Samsung Messages in July 2026 for users running Android 12 or later. As part of this change, users were directed to Google's Messages app as an upgrade.

However, many users are unhappy with the layout and features of Google Messages compared to Samsung Messages. They find it ugly and not user-friendly, and have reported lag issues and excessive battery usage.

The switch also means that users must now have a Google email address to access advanced features like Rich Communication Services (RCS) Messaging and AI enhancements. This has led to concerns about data collection and commercial use of user information via these AI features.

Some users are considering alternative messaging apps, such as Textra and Fossily, which offer customization options and are said to be more user-friendly than Google Messages.
