Google Messages Finally Joins Personalization Party with Custom Chat Themes
Google Messages has finally caught up with its competitors by offering personalization options. The update allows users to change their chat background and customize the look of individual threads.
The new feature, which is available on both standard releases and beta builds, relies on Rich Communication Services (RCS) technology. To access it, users need to open Google Messages, tap their profile icon in the top-right corner, navigate to Messages settings, and select RCS chats to confirm that the feature is toggled on.
To change the chat background, users can select a pre-designed image from various categories or choose a photo from their phone or Google Photos. The custom themes are only visible to the user, so they can experiment with different designs without affecting others' views.
