Google Messages Unveils Chat Themes with Custom Backgrounds
Google Messages has finally introduced chat themes and custom backgrounds feature after weeks of testing. This new feature allows users to change chat colors and wallpapers for individual conversations, giving them a more personalized look. However, it's worth noting that this customization only affects how the conversation looks on the user's device, not on the recipient's.
The feature is available in phases, with all eligible devices expected to receive the update within weeks. Users can choose from curated design options or upload their own custom images as a background. Once a user selects a custom wallpaper, the app will automatically adjust the message bubbles to fit the new look.
Users are not locked into the first color combination they see and can manually change the color palette. A theme is visible only to the person who sets it, so changing the background or colors does not alter what the other person or members of a group chat see on their devices.
