Google Nest Cam Uncovers Hidden Patterns in Pet Behavior
The author of this article had previously been skeptical about smart home devices, but after receiving a Google Nest Cam as a gift, they discovered its potential. The device's ability to detect dog barks caught their attention, and they decided to explore this feature further.
To use the bark detection feature, the user must first turn on the microphone of their Nest camera, which is off by default. This can be done through the Google Home app or the Nest app. Once the microphone is turned on, the user can enable the dog barking toggle in the Events section of the Google Home app.
The author was surprised to learn that their dog barked for a few seconds after they left for work every day. By reviewing the video history and footage of these events, they were able to identify that their dog's barking was triggered by specific things such as doorbell sounds and delivery vehicles arriving.
