Google Notebook Ditches Flat Limits for Compute-Specific Usage Tracking
Google Notebook is making significant changes to its usage limits starting September 2. The new system, known as 'compute-specific' usage limits, will track the complexity of user prompts and requests rather than imposing flat daily limits on features like chats, audio overviews, and video overviews.
Under the current system, free users have a daily allowance of 50 chats and three audio overviews, while Google AI Ultra users can request up to 5,000 chats and 200 audio overviews per day. However, with the new limits, these flat allowances will disappear, and usage will be calculated based on the complexity of prompts and models used.
Free Google AI users will receive unspecified 'standard' limits, while paid users will have increased allowances depending on their subscription tier. Additionally, a weekly limit will replace the current monthly limit, and users who exceed their five-hour usage allotment will have to wait until the next window opens.
