Google One Subscriber Frees Up 23GB of Storage with Five Simple Steps

The author of this story has a Google One subscription that provides more than the standard 15GB of free storage on their Google Account. However, they still wanted to clear out some space and decided to implement a process to manage their Google Photos images and videos.

The author started by ignoring compressed media from before June 1, 2021, as it wouldn't count towards their account storage. They then began by sorting through their screenshots folder on the Google Photos website using their PC, where they could use a keyboard shortcut to select multiple items at once.

This process allowed them to remove around 3,000 screenshots and free up 2GB of space. The author also used the stacking feature to find similar photos, which removed over 800 photos and cleared up another 3GB of storage.

The author then used the Google One storage manager to identify large media files in their Google Photos account, which helped them remove over 8.5GB of storage. Finally, they focused on videos as the last step, deleting hundreds of short clips that were taking up space and freeing up a further 9.4GB of storage.
