Google Opens First Overseas Flagship Store in Tokyo's Omotesando
Google's first overseas flagship store outside of the US has opened in Tokyo's Omotesando district. The three-story store is located within the Tokyu Plaza Omotesando complex and marks a milestone for Google's hardware division, which spent years building towards this moment.
The commercial rationale for choosing Tokyo was not sentimental, but rather driven by market data. Counterpoint Research found that Pixel held an 11% share of Japan's smartphone market in 2025, placing it second behind Apple's 60%. However, in February 2026, Pixel surpassed Samsung to claim the number-two Android spot outright.
Google's Vice President of Google Store, Mauria Finley, described Japan as a 'highly critical market' for the Google Pixel portfolio. The store's three-level layout divides its function across retail sales on the ground floor, AI experience demos and workshops on the second floor, and walk-in Pixel repairs and customer support services in the basement.
The store features the full Made by Google lineup, including the Pixel 11 series, Pixel Watch 5, and Nest smart home devices. A special-edition regional merchandise line was produced for the Tokyo launch, including branded apparel and tote bags exclusive to the location.
