Google Opens Local Office in Pakistan Amid Digital Transformation Push

Google has marked a significant milestone in its presence in Pakistan by opening its first local office in Islamabad, according to an inauguration ceremony at the Prime Minister's House. The event was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, US Chargé d'Affaires in Pakistan, and Google delegation led by Wilson L. White, global affairs vice president. White described the opening as a significant moment for the company's relationship with the country.

The local office aims to focus on three key areas: investing in people through digital skills training, investing in manufacturing and infrastructure to support hardware exports, and supporting local businesses. Google has already made significant contributions to Pakistan's economy, equipping over one million teachers, students, developers, and creators with digital skills and generating Rs3.9 trillion in economic benefits to Pakistani businesses and households, sustaining 965,000 jobs.

Farhan Qureshi, cluster director for Google Pakistan, the Philippines, and Thailand, stated that the local presence will deepen Google's commitment to accelerating Pakistan's digital transformation. Prime Minister Shehbaz described the opening as a stepping stone towards long-term collaboration, highlighting the country's major digital transformation and potential for fruitful partnership.
