Google Pauses AI-Generated Image Experiment in AI Overviews
Google has been rolling out AI-generated images within its AI Overviews in Search. This development was first announced last month, and it appears that the feature is now live for some users. According to a report from Inspired Taste, when searching for recipe results on Google, users are being shown AI-generated images instead of traditional search results.
The company behind Inspired Taste, which has been featured in various cooking publications, expressed concerns about this development. They argued that the AI-generated images are trying to replace creators who spend time and resources testing, photographing, and filming recipe videos.
Additionally, there is a risk of confusion for users, as they may think that one of the websites cited in the AI Overview did the illustrations. This has sparked concerns among creators about the direction AIOs (Artificially Intelligent Overviews) and AI Mode are taking.
However, Google has since confirmed that this was just a small experiment and have decided to stop testing it. Robby Stein from Google stated, 'This was a small experiment we're no longer running.' It's unclear if this feature will reappear in the future or if it's been scrapped entirely.
