Google Photos' New Image Map Feature Could Revolutionize Location-Based Searches
Google Photos may soon introduce an image map feature to its Ask Photos search section. An unreleased version of Google Photos, version 7.89.0.966319819, includes a new map view that shows photos as bubbles on a real location map when searching for a specific town or country.
The existing heatmap in the Collections section under Places already provides a similar view, formatted as a global heat map. However, this private build of Google Photos does not appear polished and its functionality is unclear when Ask Photos is turned off.
Google recently rolled out an option to disable AI search and revert back to a classic search experience, which could impact the image map feature's usability. The introduction of an image map in Ask Photos would be a great tool for users to explore photos from specific locations.
