Google Photos Trims Trash Time to 30 Days for All Media

Google Photos is planning to unify its trash retention policy for deleted media. Currently, backed-up photos and videos remain in the Trash for 60 days before being permanently purged, while items that were never backed up are automatically removed after 30 days.

A code snippet found in Google Photos v7.90 suggests that the company plans to cut this window in half, allowing all deleted media to be permanently deleted after just 30 days in the Trash.

This change is not yet live, but it's likely that Google will give users plenty of notice before rolling out the update broadly. The unified policy could provide a more consistent experience for users and potentially save Google on server storage costs.
