Google Pixel 11: Not Fully Waterproof Despite IP68 Rating
The Google Pixel 11 boasts an impressive IP68 rating, which may lead some to believe it's fully waterproof. However, this rating is often misunderstood.
IP stands for 'ingress protection,' a classification system that measures how well a device resists dust and water. The first number in the rating corresponds to solid particle protection, while the second deals with liquids.
With an IP68 rating, the Pixel 11 has strong protection against both dust and water. The '6' indicates it's dust-tight, while the '8' means it can withstand being submerged in more than a meter of water, roughly three feet.
While this is a high level of water-resistance, an IP68 rating is not the same as being fully waterproof. Normal wear and tear can reduce or eliminate protection over time, and repairs or physical damage can also compromise its integrity.
