Google Pixel 11 Tensor G6 Leaks Reveal 7-Core CPU Layout and Security Concerns
The latest leak on Google's Pixel 11 series reveals significant upgrades to its Tensor G6 processor. According to multiple outlets, the chip will feature a unique 7-core CPU layout, with one high-performance core, four mid-tier performance cores, and two efficiency cores. This departure from the standard 8-core norm is expected to provide improved single-threaded performance for app launch speed and UI responsiveness.
The Tensor G6 will also use TSMC's 3nm process, which would make it one of the first smartphone series to ship on this node. This move could be a deliberate tradeoff for efficiency rather than a manufacturing shortfall, given that a smaller process node typically brings power efficiency and thermal headroom gains.
However, not all details are positive. Leaks suggest that Google removed Arm's Memory Tagging Extension (MTE) from the Tensor G6 hardware, which could leave devices vulnerable to memory-safety bugs. This has sparked controversy, with some critics arguing that this omission is a significant security concern.
