Google Play Adds Venmo for Digital Content Purchases
Google has expanded its payment options on the Google Play Store by adding Venmo as a new method. Users can now use their Venmo wallet or linked bank accounts and payment cards to purchase games, apps, add-ons, and other digital content. This includes subscriptions and tips for creators in various content-based apps.
According to TechCrunch, users will be able to link their Venmo account by going to the payment methods section in their account settings. The move comes as Google Play already offers a range of payment options, including PayPal, Cash App, American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and JCB cards.
In addition to these digital purchases, Google has been experimenting with cash-based payments outside the US, allowing users to pay for digital content at nearby stores. The move follows a year in which user spending on in-app purchases exceeded $167 billion, a 10.6% increase from the previous year, according to Sensor Tower.
