Google Plays Catch-up with Domain-Specific AI Agents for Finance and Law

Google has launched Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services and Legal, its first domain-specific AI agents. These agents are built on the Gemini Enterprise platform, which includes a Google-managed financial research agent and over 50 new skills with specialized instructions for financial roles and workflows.

The launch marks Google's belated move into vertical and domain-specific AI agents, following the example set by Anthropic and OpenAI. Both rivals have already released similar products, including Anthropic's Claude for Financial Services, which was released over a year ago.

David Nicholson, an analyst at Futurum Group, said that Google is 'playing catch-up' in this space. However, he noted that the company is trying to appeal to enterprises by pitching itself as a neutral platform layer that helps them with their existing processes.

Sid Nag, founder and chief research officer of Tekonyx, sees Google's strength in its ability to provide financial services industry access to applications that aid their processes. He believes the vendor could be superior due to having a 'strong enterprise control plane'.
