Google Pours $15.1 Billion into Finnish AI Infrastructure
Google is investing $15.1 billion in Finland as part of its largest European investment to date. The tech giant will build at least three new data centers and expand an existing facility in Hamina, leveraging the country's cold climate and renewable energy sources. This move is aimed at accelerating the expansion of Google's AI computing capacity.
The project, valued at €13 billion ($15.1 billion), will support over 37,000 jobs during its construction phase, including around 16,000 in the construction industry. Once operational, the facilities are expected to create approximately 7,000 jobs among suppliers and local service providers.
Google is also expanding energy infrastructure by signing new wind power agreements and deploying a 94-megawatt battery system at one of the sites. The company has partnered with several Finnish organizations, including Fortum Oyj and Elisa Oyj, to support the project.
