Google Pulls Plug on Pixel Tablet After Three-Year Run

Google has quietly discontinued its Pixel Tablet after just three years on the market. The device, which was launched in June 2023 at $499 with a charging dock or $399 without, failed to gain traction as a hybrid tablet and smart home display. According to reports, the company halted tablet production pending a 'worthwhile future', but it seems this future is not imminent.

The Pixel Tablet's demise comes after attempts by Google to revamp its design and features were reportedly shelved due to profitability concerns. The device was initially marketed as a versatile product that could serve both as a tablet and a smart home display, but in practice, its mid-range Tensor G2 chip and 16:9 screen made it hard to justify against more powerful options from Apple and Samsung.

Existing owners of the Pixel Tablet need not worry about support, however. Google has extended software support by two years, pushing the end-of-life date to June 2028. This means that security patches and Android updates will still arrive for the next couple of years.
