Google Quick Share Expands to Match AirDrop Feature

Google has expanded its wireless file transfer feature Quick Share to make it more like Apple's AirDrop. Starting today, users of select Android devices can exchange contact information, photos, and videos with just a tap between compatible phones.

This new development brings two compatible devices close together, automatically prompting a share request for contact info, or allowing users to open the Share Sheet on the file they want to transfer and then tap the devices together. The updated feature makes Quick Share work similarly to Apple's NameDrop feature introduced in iOS 17.

The expansion of Quick Share follows recent moves to increase interoperability between the feature and AirDrop. Initially, support for AirDrop was added to Pixel 10 generation devices in late 2025, with more devices slated to add this option earlier this year.

Pixel 6 and newer devices are the first to receive the updated Quick Share capabilities, with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 receiving them soon. Google promises to expand support to even more Android devices by the end of the year.
