Google Refers to Lake Ontario as 'Lake America' Following Trump's Executive Order
Google has made changes to its Search and Google Maps platforms in response to an executive order issued by President Donald Trump. The order directed that Lake Ontario be renamed 'Lake America' as a nod to the lake's importance to the US economy.
Last week, Trump signed the order, which stated: 'In recognition of this flourishing economic resource and its critical importance to our Nation's economy and its people, I am directing that the Lake officially be renamed as Lake America.'
Google has updated its platforms to reflect the name change, but it will only affect users in the US. Those in Canada will still see 'Lake Ontario', while others around the world will see both names.
