Google Reflects Trump's Lake Renaming Order, but Not Everywhere

Google has updated its maps application to reflect President Donald Trump's recent order renaming Lake Ontario as 'Lake America' for US users. This change comes amid an escalating trade war between the US and Canada, with both countries imposing billions of dollars in added tariffs on each other's goods.

The update is based on Google's practice of using names assigned by the US Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). As a result, people using Maps in the US will see 'Lake America', while those in Canada and outside of North America will still see 'Lake Ontario'.

President Trump's decision was met with mockery and indifference in both countries. In response to the order, Ontario Premier Doug Ford put up a billboard-sized message on the Canadian shore reading 'Lake Ontario. Now and forever.'
