Google Rehires AI Talent Amid Rapid Cloud Growth
Alphabet's Google has made a significant move to bolster its artificial intelligence capabilities by rehiring Barret Zoph, co-founder of Thinking Machines Lab. The decision comes as Google Cloud continues to grow rapidly, accounting for 20.7% of Alphabet's total sales in the second quarter.
Zoph previously spent six years at Google Brain and will now return to Google DeepMind, where he will contribute his expertise in model research. However, investors should focus on tangible results rather than simply being impressed by Zoph's credentials.
The real payoff will come if DeepMind can convert its brainpower into more effective models, stronger products, and cloud workloads that customers are willing to pay for.
