Google Releases Gemini App for Windows with Limited Features
Google recently launched a standalone desktop client for its AI assistant Gemini on Windows. The app is designed to run in the background without slowing down the computer and integrates into current work via a floating window.
The key feature of the Gemini app is the Alt+Spacebar shortcut, which opens Gemini as an overlay on top of the currently active application. This allows users to quickly access Gemini's features, such as chat and fact-checking, without interrupting their workflow.
However, the Windows version of Gemini lacks some features present in the macOS version, including Gemini Spark, a personal AI agent that can handle multi-step tasks. The app also has limited availability in the European Economic Area due to regulatory restrictions.
