Google Renames Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' Amid Trump-Ordered Name Change
Google has updated its maps application to reflect a recent change in the name of Lake Ontario. The company says it renamed the lake 'Lake America' for users in the United States, citing an order by President Donald Trump amid an escalating trade war with Canada.
The decision was made based on Google's practice of using the name assigned by the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS).
Google did not immediately comment on whether it would revert to its original naming convention once the trade dispute is resolved.
