Google has updated its Maps service to display 'Lake America' for users in the United States, following an executive order signed by President Donald Trump. The change is part of a broader trade dispute between the US and Canada, with the US imposing 50% tariffs on $20 billion in Canadian goods.

The executive order was announced last week, with Trump stating that the US does not expect to do much business with Ontario anymore. In response, Google said it would display both 'Lake Ontario' and 'Lake America' for users outside of Canada, with 'Lake America' appearing in parentheses.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has stated that New York will not be calling the lake by its new name, while White House Communications Director Steven Cheung celebrated the update on X, writing 'It's official! LAKE AMERICA on Google Maps.'
