Google Renames Pixel 10 Pro's 100x Zoom Feature to Simplify Branding

Google has made a subtle change to its Pixel 10 Pro camera feature, renaming it from 'Pro Res Zoom' to simply 'Pro Zoom'. The update, part of the Pixel Camera 10.3 update, doesn't bring any new features or interface changes but does simplify the label on device settings and store listings.

The Pro Zoom feature uses a combination of hardware and software to achieve 100x zoom levels, leveraging machine learning models to process multiple frames captured by the device's telephoto sensor. This approach is part of a broader shift in smartphone photography where software processing plays an increasingly important role alongside camera hardware.

The update comes as Google continues to work on improving its Android experience and camera capabilities. A recent bug fix, part of the Android 16 QPR3 update, addressed a camera-related issue affecting Pixel 9 devices.
