Google Revives Wallet App for iOS After Year-Long Absence
iPhone owners have been locked out of Google Wallet for over a year, but it appears that may soon change. Code strings buried inside Google Play Services and the Quick Share Extension app now reference 'Google Wallet' and 'iOS', indicating a possible return of the service to Apple devices.
The discovery was made after examining two apps, where five separate references were found tying Google Wallet directly to iOS. While this doesn't confirm a finished app, these code strings typically show up months before a feature is released.
The absence of Google Wallet on iPhone dates back to 2013, when it was first introduced alongside Apple Pay. The two services eventually merged into Google Pay in 2020, but it was discontinued for iOS users last year.
