Google Rolls Out Dedicated Gemini App for Windows with AI Assistant
Google has released a dedicated Gemini app for Windows, following its earlier release on macOS. The free app allows users to activate the AI assistant using the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut, eliminating the need to rely on the browser version.
The company describes the app as 'lightweight and quiet,' stating it won't slow down your PC. According to Google, the Gemini app for Windows has three primary uses: opening Gemini at any time by pressing Alt + Space to perform tasks such as fact-checking or generating title ideas; accessing a workspace with features like handing multi-step tasks over to Gemini Spark or asking Gemini to prepare a project summary using information from Google apps like Gmail and Google Drive.
The app also includes the ability to create images and videos. Users can generate custom images using Nano Banana or produce videos directly with Gemini Omni from their desktop. The Windows version of the Gemini app is free and can be downloaded from Google's Gemini desktop page, with further features expected to be added in the future.
