Google Rolls Out New Features to Support Favorite Publications
Google has introduced a new 'Preferred Sources' button that webmasters can add to their websites. This feature allows readers to support their favorite publications by adding them as preferred sources on Google. When a reader clicks this button, it adds the site as a Preferred Source and directs them back to where they left off on the publisher's page.
The publication will then appear more frequently in Google Search results, including in Top Stories, AI Overviews, and AI Mode. This feature formalizes something publishers have been doing independently for a while now, such as Engadget.
Google is also updating its Discover feed to allow users to curate the content it surfaces by conversing with the Gemini chatbot. Users can find Gemini in the Google app or Chrome on Android and tap the three-dot icon next to any story to start curating their feed.
In addition, Google is making it easier for users to customize audio briefings through its News app on Android. Users can now choose specific topics and see clear source attribution and links out to full articles.
