Google Scoops Up Defunct Spirit Airlines Data for AI Boost
Google has acquired Spirit Airlines' business data in a bankruptcy auction for $10 million. The deal includes around 10 million emails and 500 million Microsoft Teams chats, as well as various other internal company documents.
The data will be used to improve Google's products and artificial intelligence models. However, the tech giant has assured that it will not receive any personally identifiable information from the dataset.
A third party will scrub the data of individual user information before Google receives it. The buyer must agree not to attempt to re-identify users, according to a separate court filing.
