Google Scoops Up Spirit Airlines' Data for $10 Million AI Boost
Google has acquired an archive of Spirit Airlines' data for $10 million to train its AI systems in predictive ad targeting and dynamic pricing. The dataset includes 100 million emails, 500 million chat messages, documents, and operational history, but excludes personal passenger and credit card information.
The purchase marks the latest move by Google to acquire elite consumer datasets through bankruptcy auctions. By doing so, the company bypasses traditional licensing requirements and obtains high-quality data at a significant discount. Licensing such data from companies that are still operating can cost millions annually.
Google's AI systems will use this data to predict how consumers react to price changes and advertisements, optimizing dynamic pricing to influence when and how people spend money. The company has stated that the acquisition is aimed at improving its products and AI models.
