Google Searches Hit Record High for Zero-Click Results
Google searches are increasingly ending without a click, raising concerns for businesses that rely on search engine optimization (SEO) to reach customers. According to SparkToro's analysis of Similar web desktop and mobile panel data, zero-click Google searches have risen to 68.01% in the first four months of this year, up from 60.45% in 2024.
This shift is largely due to the growing use of AI-generated summaries and answer panels on search results pages, which often satisfy user queries without requiring a visit to an outside website.
Mike Koenigs, founder of The Superpower Accelerator, warns business owners that their traditional SEO strategies may no longer be effective in reaching customers. 'When the search engine answers the question itself, ranking for a category term stops working as a business model,' he said. 'The companies still getting found are the ones people already know by name.'
Koenigs advises businesses to focus on building direct recognition and creating authority assets that establish their brand identity.
