Google Seeks Billions from Hollywood for AI Training
Google's AI platforms are in need of data and content to improve their performance, and the company has turned its attention to Hollywood for potential licensing revenue.
According to reports, Google has had introductory meetings with major Hollywood studios, including Walt Disney and Pixar, as it seeks to access characters, storylines, and content from movies and TV shows.
The tech giant is reportedly willing to pay significant sums for the rights to use this data in its AI platforms, including Google Gemini. Estimates suggest that a studio like Disney could receive around $40 million for the rights to generate AI content based on a single copyrighted character, with overall deals potentially reaching into the billions.
This move comes as the entertainment industry continues to face rising marketing and distribution costs, with average total U.S. marketing costs reaching $35 million and global marketing costs exceeding $100 million to $150 million.
