Google Simplifies Password Transfer Between Android Apps

Google has made it easier for Android users to transfer their saved passwords and passkeys between different password managers. The new feature, which uses the Credential Exchange Format (CXF), allows users to import or copy their passwords and passkeys from another provider directly within their existing password manager app.

This means that users will no longer need to manually export and re-import their logins via a CSV file, which can pose security risks. The feature is already available for Google Password Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden Password Manager, and Dashlane, with more integrations on the way.

According to Security.org, over one third of Americans (34%) are now using some kind of password management tool, although most (63%) opt for free services. The new feature is available for devices running Android 8 and above, which was released in 2017.
