Google Simplifies Password Transfers Without Unencrypted Files

Google has simplified the process of transferring passwords and passkeys to its Password Manager. Users can now easily move their sign-in information from other password managers without having to download an unencrypted file, making the transfer quicker and safer.

The previous method required exporting passwords into a file that could contain sensitive login details in an unencrypted form, leaving them vulnerable if left on the device.

Passkeys were also unable to be transferred between password managers, requiring users to create new ones when switching.

The new transfer experience is available for supported passwords and passkeys from Google Password Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden Password Manager, and Dashlane. More partners are expected to join in the future.
