Google Skips Older Pixel Models in August Security Patch

Google has released its August security patch for Pixel phones, but some older models have been left out. The update, which carries build number CP2A.260805.005, raises the security patch level to August 5, 2026, and fixes an elevation of privilege flaw in the video processing unit (CVE-2026-0163). However, six devices - the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, and 7a - are missing from Google's device list for the August update.

The omission is not new, as Google skipped the Pixel 6 and 7 in the February update and May one. The company has not provided a clear explanation for this pattern or schedule. Despite this, Google claims that its phones remain protected throughout their support window through Pixel patches, Google Play system updates, and fixes from the Android Security Bulletin.

For users with affected devices, there is little to do beyond keeping Play system updates current and waiting to see whether Google follows up. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro reach the end of their window in October 2026, while the Pixel 7 line has more than a year left before they should receive monthly patches.
