Google Snatches Spirit Airlines Data for AI Boost
Spirit Airlines' data is being sold to Google for $10 million as part of the airline's bankruptcy proceedings. The sale includes emails, internal communications, spreadsheets, transactions with the public, frequent flyer information, and human resources data on employees.
The data has been anonymized, meaning that individuals cannot be identified from it. However, it is still a significant amount of useful intelligence for Google to feed its AI models.
This sale is unusual because most airlines in bankruptcy are purchased whole by another airline, including their data. Spirit Airlines was the first major US airline to halt operations entirely since 1996.
