Google Spam Team Confirms Ongoing Fight Against Search Spam

Google's search spam team has confirmed it is actively fighting against spam in search results. The team, led by Rajan Patel, VP of Engineering for Google Search, continues to update its algorithms to reduce spam.

The latest August 2026 spam update was seen as a significant hit on spammers, with data from SE Rankings showing an 82% increase in Google kicking URLs out of the top 100.

Gagan Ghotra, who posted about the update on X, noted that it seemed to indicate the spam team is still well-resourced and actively working on tackling spam. Rajan Patel responded simply 'Yes it is.'
