Google Spared Breakup Bid as Judge Orders Ad Tech Integration
Alphabet Inc.'s Google has been granted relief from a potentially crippling order to sell its AdX advertising exchange. US District Judge Leonie Brinkema issued her decision on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, and rejected the Justice Department's bid to force a sale of Google's AdX.
The ruling spares Google from what would have been a second attempt at breaking up the tech giant, as it was forced to divest some of its assets in 2024. Instead, Judge Brinkema ordered Google to make changes to its ad tech tools so they work with those operated by rivals.
The exact nature of these behavioral changes is not specified, and will be revealed when the full decision is made public later this month.
