Google Spends $25 Million on Austin Tower Renovation
Google is pouring $25 million into renovating its Sail Tower in downtown Austin, Texas. Construction on the project located at 601 W. 2nd St. will begin on August 14, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The renovation comes after Google opened a new nonprofit community space within the tower last week. The space is designed to support local charities with a free, high-tech hub for innovation.
The building's ground-floor venue can accommodate up to 143 people and includes high-speed Wi-Fi, audiovisual equipment, event supplies, and more. The renovation will cover an initial tenant improvement of shell office space and minor renovations of existing shell amenity, storage, and mechanical spaces.
