Google Tackles Motion Sickness with Android 17's Motion Assist Feature

Google has introduced Motion Assist, a feature designed to alleviate motion sickness symptoms while using a smartphone in transport. This feature is part of Android 17 and aims to reduce the discrepancy between visual perception and inner ear signals.

Motion Assist uses the phone's accelerometer and gyroscope to display moving indicators on the screen, synchronizing with the vehicle's movement. When turning right, the indicators move left across the screen, and when braking, they move forward.

This approach is similar to Apple's Motion Cues feature, introduced in 2024. Users can customize the transparency, shape, and color of the indicators, as well as configure the feature to turn on automatically or through the Quick Settings tile.
