Google Tasks Prepares for Dedicated Search Bar Feature

Google's task management app, Tasks, is set to receive a major update in the form of a dedicated search bar. The feature has been spotted in the latest version of the app, with code suggesting that it will allow users to easily find specific tasks and reminders.

The search bar was discovered by Android Authority through an APK teardown of version 2026.08.24.96 of Google Tasks. The teardown revealed a string hinting at the search bar's functionality, as well as an icon and XML file referencing the feature.

Although it is unclear when or if the search bar will be implemented, its absence in the current app has been criticized by users who prefer more robust task management features. Unlike some of its competitors, such as TickTick and Todoist, Google Tasks currently lacks a built-in search function.
