Google Teams Up for 86MW Solar-Plus-Storage Project in West Virginia
Google, MN8 Energy, and Eos Energy Enterprises have partnered to build an 86MW solar-plus-storage project in West Virginia. The project will combine 86MW of utility-scale solar PV with 10MW/100MWh of zinc-based long-duration energy storage (LDES) and 70MW/280MWh of lithium-ion battery storage.
The site, located on MN8's Mammoth Solar site in Kanawha County, is expected to reach commercial operation in 2028. Google will purchase the project's energy, capacity, and clean energy attributes under the agreement.
According to MN8 Energy's President and CEO Jon Yoder, 'this project reflects what MN8 does best: understanding a customer's unique energy profile and building a solution around it.'
The project is expected to represent up to US$350 million in capital investment and create around 200 jobs locally. Eos will manufacture its zinc-based storage systems in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
